February Newsletter

Hello Everybody,

There will be an executive committee meeting on Thursday, February 2nd and a membership meeting on Thursday, February 12th.  Both are at 7:00pm.

We will be serving Hazel’s World Famous Chicken & Dumplings on Saturday, February 4th and Chicken Fried Steak on Saturday, February 18th from 2:00-6:00pm.  We need help serving these meals.  Please volunteer some time.

Thanks to Jo and Max Ganser, Mike Marlow and Webb Skinner for your help on January 20th & 21st while I was at the Detachment Executive meeting in Austin.

Our 50/50 drawings are on Wednesdays and our Meat Draws on Fridays, both starting at 6:00pm.  Also, we are selling raffle tickets for $1.00 each for a large piñata.  We need S.A.L. members to help sell the tickets.  The drawing will be held on Valentine’s Day, February 14th at 7:00pm.

Please don’t forget that the 2012 Membership Cards are available.  See Jay or myself to obtain your new card.

Until next we meet, we will always be the “Sons”.

For God and Country,

Richard  Grimes
Commander

Preamble to the S.A.L. National Constitution

Proud possessors of a priceless heritage, we male descendants of veterans of the Great Wars, associate ourselves together as "Sons of The American Legion" for the following purposes:  To uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America; to maintain law and order; to foster and perpetuate a true spirit of Americanism; to preserve the memories of our former members and the associations of our members and our forefathers in the Great Wars; to inculcate a sense of individual obligation to the community, state and nation; to combat the autocracy of both the classes and masses; to make right the master of might; to promote peace and good will on earth; to safeguard and transmit to posterity the principles of justice, freedom and democracy; to consecrate and sanctify our friendship by our devotion to mutual helpfulness; to adopt in letter and spirit all of the great principles for which The American Legion stands; and to assist in carrying on for God and Country.

S.A.L. Friday Night Meat Draw

Proceeds from the S.A.L. Friday Night Meat Draw are donated to Teach the Children, Youth Welfare programs and American Legion programs. So come join the fun as we spin the wheel for charity and fresh meat. A large selection of meat is available for you to choose from.

This is how it works: you buy a numbered ticket for $1, the S.A.L. spins the wheel and the lucky number wins the meat. Only 30 tickets are sold per spin (pretty good odds). You may purchase up to five chances per spin. The will be 5-10 spins, depending on the crowd and participation.  It’s a meat blast!
